Racquetball scoring, explained for beginners
Games are played to 15. Traditional scoring only lets the server score; rally scoring awards a point on every rally. Matches are best of three games.
What are the two scoring systems?
Traditional scoring: only the server can win a point — the receiver wins the right to serve, not the point. Rally scoring: whoever wins the rally wins the point.
How do you win a game?
First to 15 wins. Under traditional rules you win by one; under rally scoring you usually win by two. Check which system your club plays before you start.
Who serves first, and when does it change?
A coin toss or rally decides first serve. The server keeps serving as long as they keep scoring under traditional rules; under rally scoring the serve can change on every point.
How many games win a match?
Best of three games — first to two wins. Some tournaments use a two-game format with a tiebreaker to 11.
